Universal Account Number (UAN)

Every employee who contributes to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) has a unique 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN). This number is crucial as it helps track your income, and even the Income Tax Department uses it for evaluation. The best part? Your UAN stays with you, no matter how many jobs you switch or where your career takes you.

Verified by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, your UAN is linked to your savings account, providing a seamless way to manage your EPF account, even if you move from one job to another.

In 2024, the EPFO made it mandatory to link your PAN with your UAN for tax compliance. This ensures that your EPF services remain uninterrupted and makes it easier for the Income Tax Department to track and verify your income.

Key Features of UAN

UAN is assigned to every EPF member or employee for efficient management of their EPF account. It simplifies the process of managing your EPF contributions across different employers.

Here are some of the key features of UAN:

  • Portability: You may now port your EPF services from one employee to another.
  • Online Access: Allows employees to view their EPF balance, passbook, and other details online.
