Pension Calculation Formula

The Pension Calculator uses two main formulas:

1. Total Corpus (Future Value of Investment)

FV = P × [(1 + (r/n))(n×t) – 1] / (r/n)

Where:

  • FV = Future Value (Total Corpus)
  • P = Monthly Contribution
  • r = Annual Rate of Return
  • n = Number of compounding periods per year (12 for monthly)
  • t = Number of years until retirement

2. Estimated Monthly Pension (Post-Retirement Income)

The accumulated corpus is converted into an annuity using this formula:

Pension = Corpus × Annuity Rate

Note: The annuity rate typically ranges between 5% and 7% depending on your pension provider.

Pension Calculation Example

Let’s take an example:

  • Age: 30 years
  • Retirement Age: 60 years
  • Monthly Contribution: 5,000
  • Rate of Return: 10% p.a.

Using the formula, your estimated corpus at age 60 will be approximately 1.14 crore.

If 40% of this corpus is converted into an annuity at 6% per annum, your monthly pension will be around 22,800.
