Purpose of SBI Surya Ghar Loan
The loan is designed for the installation of solar rooftop systems with a capacity of 3 KW to 10 KW for residential and businesses looking to switch to green energy.
SBI Surya Ghar Loan Amount
You can get a loan amount of a maximum ₹2 lakhs for installations up to 3KW and a maximum of ₹6 lakhs for installations above 3KW to 10 KW.
SBI Solar Loan Margins
The minimum margin requirement is 10% of the project cost for installations of up to 3KW and 20% of the project cost for installations of above 3KW to 10KW.
SBI Surya Ghar Loan Interest Rate (Floating)
The effective interest rate for up to 3KW is EBLR – 2.15%, currently translating to 7%. And the interest rate for more than 3 KW and up to 10 KW:
- For Home Loan customers: EBLR + 0%, currently 9.15%.
- For Non-Home Loan customers: EBLR + 1%, currently 10.15%.
SBI Surya Ghar Loan Tenure
The maximum tenure is 120 months, including a moratorium period of 6 months. However, there is no minimum period, so you can repay anytime with no prepayment penalties.

The loan is secured by the hypothecation of assets.

The processing fees for the SBI Solar Loan Scheme are waived.
SBI Surya Ghar Loan Subsidy
Subsidy amounts are ₹30,000 for 1 KW, ₹60,000 for 2 KW, and ₹78,000 for 3 KW to 10KW. This amount must be claimed by the borrower from Suryaghar.gov.in (MNRE website) using the loan account number.
SBI Surya Ghar Loan Disbursement
The loan amount is disbursed directly to the vendor or EPC contractor after the submission of all required feasibility reports as mandated by MNRE.
SBI Surya Ghar Loan Application Process
Applications must first be registered at https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in and the loan application submitted through https://www.jansamarth.in. The scheme is available for both self-sourced and assisted journeys.
SBI Surya Ghar Loan Insurance
Insurance of assets financed through the bank loan is not mandatory for rooftop solar installations up to 3 KW. For capacities above 3 KW, insurance covering the total cost of installation is required, with the cost borne by the customer.
SBI Surya Ghar Solar Loan Scheme Eligibility
There are certain eligibility criteria that you must meet to get the SBI Surya Ghar solar rooftop loan scheme, these are:
- Age Limit: Applicants up to 65 years old can apply. The loan must be repaid before the borrower turns 70 years.
- Eligibility for Individuals: All individual applicants with a CIBIL score of 680 or above are eligible. Non-Technical Candidates (NTC) are also considered.
- Rooftop Rights: Applicants must have the rights to the rooftop where the installation is planned.
- Roof Area: A sufficient rooftop area must be available, as per the guidelines set by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
- Electricity Bill: A recent electricity bill is required.
- Savings Account: Borrower must have a savings account with SBI.
- Net Annual Income: While there is no specific income requirement for installation of up to 3KW, a minimum annual income requirement of ₹3 lakhs is required for installations of more than 3KW to 10KW.
